Cult/Zeppelin rumour is debunked

Ian Astbury, lead singer of The Cult has denied rumours of a pairing of his band with Led Zeppelin for an upcoming tour, Canada’s Sun Media reports.

“That really goes to show you how naive people are, and how these things can get blown out of proportion,” said Astbury. “It’s been embellished by journalists … I haven’t even spoken to anyone from LED ZEPPELIN’s camp.”

Astbury had actually started the speculation through comments made to the audience during a show in Cinncinati on November 17, 2007. According to MTV.com, Astbury told the fans “We’ll be back next year because we’re opening for a band you may have heard of … the name starts with an ‘L’ and has a ‘Z’ in it.” A fan responded by shouting out “LED ZEPPELIN”. Astbury nodded and raised his fist.

So we are naive? What were we supposed to infer from his comments?
